We have embraced the goals of the chemical industry's voluntary "Responsible Care" initiative and apply them to the entire BASF Group. The Competence Center Responsible Care defines concrete goals for the key sectors of Responsible Care, ensures their implementation and monitors goal achievement.
- BASF regards safety as well as protection of human beings and environment as matters of essential importance. Therefore, the BASF Board of Executive Directors formulated environmental political guidelines. They are regularly reviewed for new requirements. Procedures for the effective implementation of these guidelines to operational practice are documented in site-specific directives.
- BASF strengthens through instruction, training and continual practice the personal sense of responsibility of all employees for the environment, and sharpens their look for possible ecological impacts through BASF products and the operation of its plants.
- We take for serious the questions and doubts of the public about our products and company activities, and go into them constructively.
- We continuously decrease the dangers and risks in production, storage, transport, sale, application, utilization and disposal of our BASF products, for the protection of our employees, neighbors, customers and consumers. We take into consideration the health, safety and environmental aspects right from the phase of development of new products and production procedures.
- We inform our customers and partners duly about the safe transport, the storage, the safe application, use and disposal of our products. If required, we take action for training.
- We continually work on expansion of the knowledge about possible consequences of products, production procedures and wastes on human beings and environment.
- Notwithstanding the economic interests, we shall restrict the marketing of products or stop their production, if the precaution for the protection against risks for health and environment requires such action in the light of the results of a risk assessment.
- We shall provide in-depth information thereof.
In case of health or environmental risks due to industrial operation, we take the necessary measures, work with the authorities in close cooperation, and promptly inform the public.
- BASF makes available its knowledge and experience actively in the creation of practical and effective laws, decrees, and standards, in order to guarantee the protection of human beings and environment.
